Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for the competition?

The only way to register is in-person at our registration event from 6 – 9 pm. on Feb. 15th, 2016 at The Cannery Brewing Company (198 Ellis Street, Penticton, BC). The reason that you must register in-person is so your photo and beard/mustache measurements can be taken. We want the competition to be fair for all, so no registrations will be taken before or after the registration event.

How does the competition work?

The competition is divided into 3 divisions: Beards, mustaches & beard/mustache combinations. Each division has several categories (12 in total), in which the winner will be determined by a combination of measurements taken during the 10-weeks of the festival, as well as by our panel of judges.

There are 3 measurements taken over the course of the competition, one in February, one in March – and the final measurements will be taken on April 25th, at the Awards event.

Do I have to have a beard to enter?

No, you can start the competition clean-shaven if you prefer. The competition lasts for 10 weeks – from Feb. 15 to Apr. 25 – which gives all competitors plenty of growing time.

If I miss an event, will I be disqualified?

No, you won’t be disqualified for missing an event. The competition is based on a cumulative score from the 3 measurements combined with the judges’ scores. However, if you miss one (or more) of the events, it may negatively affect your cumulative score.

If you cannot make it to the finals, unfortunately you cannot be measured or judged and your name will be withdrawn from the competition. But hey, don’t worry – you’ll still have your awesome beard!
